A Simple Yet Beautiful Red Rose Wedding Cake

Over the last several years, there have been more and more options introduced as far as wedding cakes. The choices that a bride has when choosing her cake can be overwhelming. Still, some opt for the simple elegance of a red rose wedding cake.

While some brides like to match the cake to the colors that they used in the wedding, a red rose wedding cake can be used with nearly any wedding. Even though the cake is a bit simpler than some other choices, there are still some things to think about when choosing a red rose wedding cake.

Shape

While the decorations on a red rose wedding cake tend to be quite simple, the shape of the cake is up to the bride. You can choose a tiered cake, and the tiers can be of any shape that you like.

Some choose tiers with space between them. Red roses are often placed between the tiers. Other brides choose a tiered cake in which the tiers sit one top of the other.

There is even room for a bit of whimsy. You could choose tiers in various shapes to serve as a backdrop for the red roses.

Covering

Many red rose wedding cakes are covered with fondant. Fondant is a type of frosting that is rolled out in a single sheet and then placed over each tier of the cake.

Fondant provides a perfectly smooth and seamless finish to the cake, which makes a wonderful setting on which to place the red roses.

Type of Flowers

Another decision that you will have to make is in regard to the type of red roses that will be on your cake. You could choose from flowers made from frosting, those of spun sugar or you could opt for fresh flowers.

Some brides choose edible flowers for most of the cake, but then top it with fresh red roses.

Keep in mind that some bakers are much more skilled at creating edible flowers than others. While frosting roses are quite simple, spun sugar flowers require a bit more skill.

Do It Yourself?

If you plan to make your own wedding cake, this may be a good choice for you. The reason is that it is possible to create a red rose wedding cake without having advanced baking skills.

If you are not familiar with working with fondant, you may want to skip this step as it can be quite difficult to work with fondant. Instead, just use regular frosting and get it as smooth as possible.

If you do not feel comfortable making roses from frosting, you can purchase them from many cake supply stores. Of course, buying edible roses will be more expensive than making them, but it is worth it to many brides who don’t feel they have the skills needed to create beautiful flowers.

If you have no baking experience, you might want to do a practice run at least a month before the wedding. This will give you enough time to order a cake should you learn that baking your own wedding cake is more of a challenge than you thought.

A red rose wedding cake can be elegant or a bit whimsical. No matter your wedding colors or the theme of your wedding, this type of cake will fit right in.
