Choosing a Wedding Cake Card Box
Something that is present at some, but not all, weddings is the wedding cake card box. This is a well-decorated box that is placed on the gift table. Guests can place their cards into the box, which helps to keep the cards together in one spot.
Choosing a wedding cake card box does not have to be a major consideration in your wedding planning, but the box should blend in well enough with your decorations at the reception so as not to stick out.
As the name implies, the box is shaped like a wedding cake. Colors can be added in the form of ribbon and/or flowers to match your wedding colors, or the box can be left all white.
You can find a ready-made wedding cake card box at many bridal supply stores. Online bridal retailers will usually offer an even better selection. Some of the boxes have an open top, while other just have a slit into which guests can drop their cards.
Some brides forego the wedding cake card box in favor of a satin bag that stays around her wrist during the reception. As the guests greet the bride, they slip their card into the bag. This is a fairly common practice at Italian weddings.
If you do choose to have a wedding cake card box at your wedding, here are some things to keep in mind.
Security
As much as it would be nice for this to not have to be said, the fact is that it is important to have someone keep an eye on the wedding cake card box. There is likely to be a good amount of cash and checks in the box, and it would be quite easy for a vendor or someone from another party to slip in and sneak out an envelope or two.
Placing the gift table in a location that is very much out in the open can decrease this concern.
Do it Yourself
It is quite easy to make your own wedding cake card box using round boxes in various sizes. Cover the boxes in white satin and then stack in a way that resembles a tiered wedding cake.
Use ribbon, silk flowers, beads and anything else that you’d like, to embellish the box. Cut a slit in the top of the top tier and in the sides of the other tiers. This will allow guests to slip their cards into any of the tiers of your wedding cake card box.
Take it With You
Often, the money that is given in cards is used for the honeymoon. While members of your wedding party will likely move your wedding gifts from the reception to your home, you should take the wedding cake card box with you. This will allow you make notes about who gave a gift, and still be able to use the money – if you choose – on your honeymoon.
A wedding cake card box is a fun addition to the gift table at your reception. Whether you make it yourself or buy one from a bridal supply store, it will allow you to keep track of the many cards that you are sure to receive on your big day.
