Sandcastle Wedding Cake
A sandcastle wedding cake is a fun choice for many couples. The most obvious would be for those having a beach or a tropical wedding. For such couples, a sandcastle wedding cake is a perfect fit with their theme.
Other couples, who are not having a beach wedding, also choose to have a sandcastle wedding cake. For some of these couples, the beach is a big part of their lives. For others, the beach has a special meaning such as that is where they went on their first date or that is where he proposed.
Whatever the reason a couple chooses this type of cake, they will have many options when it comes to the exact design of the sandcastle wedding cake they choose.
Some cakes look exactly like a sandcastle. To see photos of these cakes, you would never know if you were looking at something made from sand or if it were an actual cake. However, this level of realism is not appealing to all brides.
Other couples choose instead to have a sandcastle wedding cake that looks more like a traditional wedding cake but with a decidedly sandcastle theme.
For example, the base of the cake may be covered in a mixture of brown sugar and crushed graham crackers to make it look like sand. From that base a castle – that may or may not look as though it were made from sand – will rise.
One baker created a cake that was covered in white fondant and then sprayed to look as though it were glistening. The cake, which was in the shape of a castle, included intricate detail work. The sides were pressed with a tool that made it look like the tower, and other portions of the castle, were made from brick.
The entire castle was set on a base made to mimic the shoreline. The result was very romantic looking. It had the shore and then a white, dreamlike castle rising from the sand. For a very personal touch, the baker drew a heart in the “sand” and included the initials of the bride and groom.
Because beach and tropical weddings are so popular, it will not be difficult to find a baker who is familiar with creating a sandcastle wedding cake. This might not be a cake that a bride would want to try on her own unless she has some experience with baking and decorating cakes.
To create a sandcastle wedding cake involves a multitude of skills including cake sculpting and decorating. Also, because these cakes are often fairly tall, one would need to know how to ensure the cake was structurally sound.
Many bakers will likely have some sandcastle cakes in their portfolio, but even if they do not, a good baker would be able to create one based on what you want.
Whether you choose an organic looking sandcastle wedding cake, or something a bit more traditional, this cake is sure to be admired and remembered by all of your wedding guests.
