This is usually determined based on the mood and formality desired for the actual event. For example, if the bride and groom want a formal day they will probably select a church or elaborate facility to host their vows. On the other hand, if they are casual and relaxed they might prefer an open garden or even a poolside retreat for the wedding.
The next step is to choose decorations and food to go with the general mood of the wedding. Food preferences are of course considered and it is always a good to serve food that is in season to give the best taste possible to the guests. If the wedding is outdoors, the need for decorations is not as essential because the natural beauty of the outdoors helps create the ambiance.

Outdoor ceremonies can be beautiful with bows, balloons or any other item that promotes the theme. For example, if the wedding is on a beach colorful umbrella could be arranged to surround the wedding party. The possibilities are limitless when the theme of the wedding dictates the decorations. Simple yellow daffodils could look beautiful against a stark brick wall on a patio.
